My entire Tuesday and Wednesday were spent at the court house on Bryant St. in San Francisco for jury duty. 'Ick' is the first word that seems to come to mind, followed shortly after 'crap' and probably 'bastards' soon after.
The act of civil service isn't what really pissed me off about the whole experience, it was more so the inefficiency of the whole process. It's amazing, we're asked to show up at a certain time and yet when we do, they make us all sit around for 15-30 minutes waiting for the Judge to enter the court. After an hour or so of questioning and whatnot, we're let go for lunch which lasts one and a half hours. What the heck is that? It's way to long to go and eat and not long enough to get any meaningful work done.
After they pick the jurors by random, the rest of the pool that was dragged in sits around, hoping that jurors don't get eliminated. If they do get eliminated then you have an opportunity to be called on. Fortunately, I didn't get called. Neither did the two people that I befriended in the court.
After playing a few hours of 'Survivor', we finally got dismissed at 3:00ish today. Thank god I don't have to do this for another year.
