Sometimes, we go days, weeks, even months without stopping for a moment to stretch. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I seriously stretched.
I spent the majority of my night at home this evening, veggin' out. I believe this can be attributed to the fact that I'm sick and partly because I'm a bit of a homebody, especially on a rainy day. When Sharon called at midnight with pleas to go and grab some food, I jumped at the opportunity with hopes that I might get some time up and about.
I met her down the street at a local pizzeria called Milano's Pizza. They make fantastic pizza at really affordable prices. We ordered two slices to go and headed to our favorite pub, The Little Shamrock, to enjoy our warm slices over a cold beer.
As soon as we finished our midnight dinner, we stumbled back home. On our return walk, Sharon had made the decision that we'd both stretch soon as we got home. I have to say, it was a wise decision.
We spent about 10 minutes, attempting to stretch every major muscle in our bodies. We used a mixture between traditional stretches and some yoga. I could feel each muscle, elongating and relaxing, every second that I held the pose. It was wonderful.
Stretching in my apartment is particularly interesting. While you're spending most of your effort to relax your muscles, you're simultaneously keeping a watchful eye for an over excited puppy who thinks it's play time once you're at eye level with her. You find yourself weaving and bobbing, attempting to escape the slobbering tongue of Sophie who is looking for any weakness to show her love for you. Ah yes, entertaining or annoying, it's always so hard to define.
Despite the doggy dodging, I had a wonderful time. I look forward to my next stretching session. I advise all of you, take the 10 minutes and find someone to stretch with. You won't regret it.
With that, I wish you all a wonderful good night.
