I *heart* Google

Every once in a while I come across something that just completely blows me away. A couple of weeks ago, I used the new Google Maps service to plot out some directions. I didn't get a real chance to play with it at the time, since I was in a bit of a hurry to get where I was going.

Today, I had an opportunity to play with it yet again. I must say, I'm amazed. Comparing it to MapQuest is a joke. Who knew that there was so much innovation to be done on an online map service, really? Well, Google goes at it again, schooling everyone.

The incredibly simple design, easy address entry, and interactivity of the map itself makes me appreciate how talented the people at Google really are.

Those poor bastards at MapQuest should be ashamed of themselves. I can't really blame them though, it's not like their owner creates the conditions for them to really be successful or competitive.

Nevertheless, I advise everyone to give it a whirl. You will not be disappointed.

  1. Wow...that *is* very nice.

It would be cool if they added GPS coordinates of whereever your cursor is at....and also the ability to enter GPS coordinates and have the map drawn.

  2. It's been incredibly hard lately to see what direction AOL is trying to take their internet properties under, considering they own 3 major Internet brands. It looks like their letting Compuserve just die. Netscape, and AOL both seem to be being pushed a lot lately. It is getting to the point where I don't really use AOL properties anymore, because every other week they change the way something works, so that there are more hoops to jump through. Last time I checked, you had to have an AIM account just to check movie showtimes.
