So it's been a while since I talked about how poor Sophie dog is doing. The good news is, she's doing quite well. As some of you might remember, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease of some kind. She was prescribed Prednisone which is an antibiotic that is used to help suppress her immune system so that her immune mediated arthritis subsides.
Needless to say, her treatment has worked. We've been steadily weaning her off the medication, week after week, reducing her dosage. She still has about a month or so of treatment, where we'll be reducing her dosage to half a pill every three days, and eventually stopping all together.
I'm pretty thrilled that we were able to find a treatment, relatively quickly, to quell her disease.
Since she started the treatment, she has changed a little bit. She has noticeably gained weight, in addition to her personality is a little more subdued. She's not nearly as active as she once was and her appetite has gone through the roof. We used to feed her 2 cups of food a day, and she'd just come by and eat it whenever she was hungry. Now, we give her 3-4 cups of food a day and it's gone within 30 seconds. I'm hopeful that once we end her treatment entirely, her appetite will return to normal.
She's scheduled for a check up in the next week or so, which we anticipate will go quite well. I am looking forward to having my Sophie dog back to full health.
